When you took the time to plan your new lighting design, did you imagine that it would turn out quite the way it did? Was it as spectacular as you had originally imagined? If not, it may not all be your fault. With the wide range of lighting on the market, it is quite easy for homeowners to get confused in terms of which style to use under certain circumstances, and to achieve different effects. Unless you have had years of experience completing lighting projects, you are not going to have the knowledge base required to make these types of decisions. Here are four types of accent lamps that are excellent to diversify the lighting profile in your home.
Sconces – If you have a particular motif in your home, such as a rustic, ancient feel, or possibly even a Victorian decor, you may want to use indoor and outdoor wall sconces. The light reflected onto your walls helps to create dramatic effects. Sconces are perfect for use near doorways and around windows. Indoors, sconces are best placed in your formal living area, to provide a low level of illumination and create a relaxed mood.
Recessed Lights – When you need extra light projected onto the floors, such as hallways or larger rooms, but do not necessarily want the light to blind your guests, recessed accent lighting is a great choice. These type of accent lamps are sunk into your ceiling, and aim light directly at your floor, helping to provide overhead lighting without having visible fixtures.
Track Lighting – Much like recessed lighting, track accent lamps are in their element when you highlight features on your walls. Features such as paintings, murals, family pictures, or even a bare wall can benefit from the addition of track accent lighting. Because you are able to adjust the angle on track lights, you will want to ensure that they are aimed at the object you are trying to highlight, and will not glare into peoples eyes as they walk by.
Table Lights – Accent table lamps fall into a category of their own. You do not typically hardwire these lamps into your home, but they are still excellent for bringing light into areas where other accent lamps are unable to reach. One great example is on your office desk or work table. Having a glass accent lamp on your table will allow you to lower the lighting when you begin to feel fatigued. Squeezing out an extra hour can happen with the addition of an accent table lamp.
